How it all started!

It all began with the thought to support artists outside our group while involving the community. Back in Columbus Ohio we had a wonderful supportive group of creatives that met weekly at Creativity Encouraged. Creativity naturally fosters diversity and we were wondering how do we support each other but make it inclusive enough to invite other folks to participate. We decided that a show about Positive Growth was a good place to start.

For the Love of God

Damien Hirst allowed us to use his title “For the Love of God” as our first show in California. Some say his piece is sacrilegious, as it utilized human artifacts. Yet the concept around the show was to engage with the beauty beyond the shock value and see all the diamonds in the rough, both figuratively and literally. We had art work from those formerly incarcerated, pieces demonstrating beauty hidden in mire and an art talk on “For the Love of God“ the shows name sake. The show served as a conversation around faith, non-faith and beauty that inspires regardless.

Art with Homeless, those in shelters & with the Unhoused.

So moving back to Southern California was a shock to the system, because it seemed like everyone was pretending like homelessness was not a ballooning issue. Relocating individuals to downtown Santa Ana or the Angel Stadium proved not to be sustainable. We started Cultivating Growth Art Classes with Bridges Shelter and put on art shows surrounding homelessness and create a memorial for the Longest Night event in Santa Ana.
